  • Get a Sharpie (or PAINT PEN) and write your name on EVERYTHING. If doesn't have your name on it consider it gone forever. You'll want to label everything right down to the individual cornflake.
  • Come up with a strategy to distinguish your bike at night when it is in a pile of 200 bikes in the dark [think unique lighting]. You'll save yourself a *lot* of stress.
  • Wear a crazy costume. Don't be afraid to get really, REALLY freaky with your ideas. The people who don't dress crazy are the ones who look out of place at Burning Man.
  • Work out a system for returning your personal items to the same place when you're done with them. Something as simple as always taking your personal effects back to your own storage place after each and every use will help you know where to find it next time you look for it.
  • Whenever you go anywhere at night make sure there's something illuminating on either your body or your bike. If you don't have lights on yourself at night you're basically invisible, which greatly increases your chances of being hit by either a fast moving bike, art car or drunkard.
  • Bring your toolkit. There'll be lots of opportunity to help out not just the Duck Pond but other camps too with their construction and setup.
  • Bring plenty of water, but don't go overboard on food. During the day you'll eat very little, and mostly things like tuna and granola bars, and at night the MealPlan will deliver plenty of calories.
  • Organise your possessions. Segment your gear into separate containers and always make sure you seal them when your done. Label the containers so that you can easily determine the contents, especially by night.
  • Playa dust, once on food, ceases to be playa dust; it is now playa spice. It's tasty. Accept it.
  • Wear a watch so you don't miss cool stuff, but remember there is "playa time"
